USPS Announces Holiday Shipping Deadlines

The United States Postal Service has announced its annual shipping deadlines for military holiday mail. Retail ground is quickly approaching with a Nov. 6 deadline across the board. However, for most other mail, which includes priority mail, first class letters and cards, and priority mail express military service, the deadlines fall between Dec. 9 and 16. You can request a free Military Care Kit containing shipping boxes, tape, and customs form envelopes!

Centennial Commemoration at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

A special two-day centennial commemoration event will allow the public to lay flowers directly in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia. According to Military Times, this is the first time the public has been allowed this opportunity in nearly 100 years. The event is scheduled for Nov. 9 and 10, but you must register at Arlington Cemetery. The event will open with a representative of the Crow Nation placing flowers at the Tomb and reciting a prayer given 100 years ago by Crow American-Indian Chief Alaxchiiaahush, also known as Chief Plenty Coups. Chief Plenty Coups placed his war bonnet and coup stick on the casket and recited a prayer. The war bonnet and coup stick are still on display.

This Week in History

We’re getting spooky this week in history! Military Spouse Magazine has shared a list of the top ten most haunted military installations. We begin with West Point Military Academy in New York, which has received reports on a ghost cavalry appearing. Across the world at Kadena Air Base in Japan, there have been a wide variety of reports, including multiple videos which have caught what appears to be a ghost approaching the gate. Perhaps the most intriguing is Fort Leavenworth, Kansas’s Frontier Army Museum, which has documented almost three dozen haunted houses.

So much good stuff here– I’m excited for TRICARE now including Doula/birthing care. Also looking forward to hearing about the Centennial at Tomb of the Unknown. Our upcoming AWTR guest Jeff Gottesfeld wrote a children’s book about Tomb of the Unknown, and it’s powerful… He’s also the keynote speaker for the event!
