Printable: Milspouse Love and Respect

Ah, love is in the air… But as military spouses, when isn’t it?

It’s no secret that learning the ins and outs through the ups and downs of military marriage takes work and intentional effort. I’ve learned a lot over the last few years and continue to do so, practically on a daily basis.

One of my great relationship lessons happened during a deployment (don’t they always?). And, because you are one of our beloved email subscribers, we want to share that magical secret with you, free of charge.

Are you ready for this?

Women desire love. Men desire respect.

The end. That’s all. Try the veal. Tip your waiter.

So yes, I’m generalizing here, but this is legit research done by Dr. Eggerichs, which he explains in great detail in his book, Love and Respect.

I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but I can tell you one thing: since I have started intentionally focusing on respecting my husband (he apparently knows that I love him), our relationship grows deeper, richer, and more fulfilling.

Although we don’t want to give everything away about this not-so-secret relationship trick, we do want to give away something to you as a thank you for being part of our AWN family. Perhaps a little something that might enrich your military marriage too.

The following printables are for pouring into your spouse. Read the book if you can. Have a conversation with your spouse, and determine if love or respect is the thing you each are looking for.

Then, start making a list.

Print off the specific document by clicking the hyperlink, cut the pieces apart, and show a little L-O-V-E and R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Complete the small slips of paper and give your spouse one daily for at least a week, although we recommend longer (forever, anyone?). You can do it for as long as you would like.

Here’s an example. Reason #28 that I respect you: You work so hard to provide for our family!
