3 Step Contentment

What a time of the year to utter the word “contentment” when we are inundated with things to buy, places to go, people to see, keeping up with the latest trends, trying to fulfill items on our loved one’s gift lists. All this while managing our own list of demands that is neverending.

But how about we take a step back and ponder the meaning of contentment.

“When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, ‘Oh yes – I already have everything that I really need.” –The 14th Dalai Lama

The feeling of contentment is grounded by intentional awareness of feeling complete, appreciation, and dare I say “enough” – those once perceived needs are put into perspective.

We start to feel satisfied … we start evolving, feeling content.

When you rest with contentment, you are untouched by trouble.

So, how do we get there?

Follow these three steps and you’ll be on your own path to contentment:

  1. Practice the art of satisfaction
  2. Conjure feelings of peace and tranquility
  3. Make a daily effort to correlate satisfaction and well-being

contentmentAsk yourself. If you’re not satisfied with your current situation in life (i.e. professional, personal, past, present, future … what have you) – what can you adjust to make you feel content?

I encourage you to feel and experience that you are enough.

Once you make it to that sacred place, contentment will overwhelm you and you’ll be able to arrange your priorities into value sets, ensuring a path to tranquility just in time for the New Year – the New YOU!
