5 Tips to Get Started Homeschooling Your Military Child

If you are a military parent thinking about homeschooling your child, you are not alone. Many military families have decided to homeschool their children to better accommodate their unique lifestyle.

Homeschooling can be a great way to ensure that your child receives a quality education while also spending more time together as a family. In this blog post, we will discuss five tips for getting started homeschooling your military child!

Homeschooling your military child can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be!

Five Homeschooling tips to get you started:

1. Find out the legal requirements for homeschooling in your area.

Homeschooling laws vary from state to state and even from school district to school district, so it is important that you do your research.  The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is a great resource. Once you have a good understanding of the homeschooling laws in your area, you can start looking into curriculum options.

2. Research curriculum options.

There are many different homeschooling curriculum options available, so it is good to do your research and find one that will work for your family. There are a few things you should keep in mind when choosing a curriculum, such as the age of your child, their learning style, and your homeschooling goals.

3. Devise a flexible homeschool schedule.

Military families often have very hectic and changing schedules, so find a homeschooling program or curriculum that can work around your busy lifestyle. Also, consider curriculum as a tool rather than a dictator to your homeschool day. As parent and teacher, you can customize it to fit your child’s educational needs and family’s schedule.

4. Create a support system.

Talk to other homeschooling families and consider joining a homeschool association or group. These groups offer activities, field trips, and social events. There are many homeschooling groups and forums available online, and these can be a great resource for advice and support. You may also want to consider joining a local homeschooling group. This can provide you with valuable resources and support from other homeschooling families in your area.

5. Check out homeschool curriculum fairs and attend a homeschool conference.

Curriculum fairs allow you to see different homeschool curriculum options and meet other homeschool families. Homeschool conferences offer workshops, keynote speakers, and exhibits. They are a great way to learn more about homeschooling and connect with other families.
