Field Problem: Military Spouse Employment

Dear, Field Problems:

I am a new Army spouse, and I want to fulfill my career aspirations. We will go to our post in a couple of months. Do you suggest that military spouses look for a job before they get to their installations? Are there programs (on- or off-post) that help spouses find employment?

Field Problem: SFRG Participation

Dear, Field Problems:

In my husband’s unit they have a Soldier and Family Readiness Group, and the leader has contacted me about attending meetings and fundraisers. I am a new military spouse, and I don’t know what SFRG is all about. I thought about attending the last meeting she put together, but my husband says he would rather me not participate with the group because of rumors and other issues that he has heard about. Can you tell me more about what SFRG is all about? Should I participate? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Field Problem: Flag Etiquette

Dear, Field Problems:

Something I wanted to address and have you answer for me is “flag etiquette.” I see so many times that our citizens are flying our flag. As proud as I am to see this, I see them tattered and torn, flown at all times and in all types of weather. Are there any rules on how to properly care for them or restrictions on their use? If there is, I thought this would be great advice to share around Flag Day or Independence Day to your readers.

Field Problem: Tips for First-Time PCSer

Dear, Field Problems:

I have been married to my husband for eight months. He has been in OSUT the last three months and will be graduating soon. He will be stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, right after graduation. and it will be our first duty station.

I am currently living in Illinois. I’d like to get advice or tips on moving (especially your first move) in the Army. I also have some general questions: What do you wish you had known before your first move? Should I go with him or stay here until he gets settled and then move there? Where do I find information on housing and communities in the area?

Amanda; new military spouse
