How I Became a Website Stalker

My name is Ana, and I am a website stalker.

By stalker, I mean setting alarms to alert me on sales and deals.

This is something completely new that I started doing. Online shopping used to not be this stressful (in a pre-COVID world). Once upon a time you could just (at any point) go to your favorite website and shop. Heck, you could even leave stuff in your online cart for what felt like days.

Now? Now, in a COVID world, everyone is online shopping!

Like most parents I have little time to go to the store to shop for items, and I find that placing orders online saves me a lot of time and stress, not to mention the awesome discounts and deals that are online only. It has made it 100 times easier for me to use drive-up pick-up or have everything delivered my house.

Lately, it’s been harder and harder to get the items or pick-up times due to the increase of people that happen to be doing the same thing I’m doing and wanting to buy the same things I buy. I now must set reminders and alarms with links attached to the memos on my phone so I don’t miss out or have to wait a few weeks (or even a month) for a restocking.

Some days during nap time or down time, I sit and watch websites. This tactic works most of the time. I set an alarm for five minutes before a restock on a product, so I can purchase before the product sells out (again), or ten minutes before a store opens just so I can pick up within the next ninety minutes.

It sounds a bit silly, but due to this global pandemic plus two littles, I am overly dependent on online shopping.

At times, I use this tactic to get presents and trinkets for friends and family. Amazon Prime is nice, but the site lacks uniqueness on some of their products and items. For example, I set alarms for new product drops on my favorite headband website. I was able to get a few of the limited-edition colors along with an early bird discount code!

My system of alarms and several reminders on my phone has been extremely helpful to me, and I plan on using this method for a long time. I often wondered why I couldn’t just use sticky notes or my white board to remind me to go shopping for necessities. I find it a little funny that I now must constantly set reminders with very loud alarms and weblinks just to accomplish anything nowadays.

I see how setting a few alarms is a good thing. It keeps me on a schedule, and it is a helpful reminder to stay on track and stay focused.

She also enjoys yoga, podcasts, reading, thrifting, and exploring cities and villages. Most of her exploring various places is food related as she loves trying new foods (and finding cool tea rooms) so she can broaden her pallet. Not to mention, you always meet the nicest people in restaurants and bakeries!
