Our First Essay Contest Across the Service Branches
So, We did a thing over here at Army Wife Network. We held an essay contest across all branches of the military as well as the Department of Defense civilian population. The contest theme was “Proud to Be” and we asked participants to describe why they are proud to be a spouse (or loved one) of a service member.
Why sponsor an essay contest?
We wanted to give military family members a creative outlet to express their feelings and appreciation of their service member.
We received many heartfelt entries and we were overwhelmed by just how powerful words can be. To put your feelings out there for someone else to read is a vulnerable action. Sometimes, that pen to paper action gives our thoughts and emotions a tangible outlet.
Sometimes, the spoken word is just not enough.
We are grateful here at the Army Wife Network for all those who entered our frst wiritng contest.
We are also honored to publish the essays of our five finalists and overall winner.
Meagan Childers, Air Force, Essay Contest Winner
Lisa Boughton, Army, Finalist
Claire Schwartz, Army, Finalist
Angel Garcia, Army, Finalist
Teresa Fowler, Army, Finalist
Brooklyn Morgan, ANG, Finalist
If you look carefully, you will see that our overall winner is Air Force Spouse, Meagan Childers. We are excited that our platform is reaching across all branches, and we are hoping to do much more of that in the future.
We are excited to publish Meagan’s and all the Finalist essays in the coming weeks. Thank you all for your support of our Empowerment Mission at Army Wife Network!
