Partnership Provides Path to Extra Income for Military Spouses

“We need some extra income.”

It’s a phrase that has been uttered in most every military home at one time or another.

It is usually followed by “how” and “where.”

Hope For The Warriors and Milspo Academy powered by CareerDash are attempting to answer both the “how” and the “where” for the military spouse and caregiver community by creating a partnership to help in the search for meaningful education and employment opportunities.

It is certainly a problem that needs to be addressed.

A couple of years ago, a Blue Star Family survey revealed military spouse unemployment is the most reported hardship by military families. The study also showed that 42 percent of active-duty military spouses are unemployed, and 30 percent of military and veteran caregivers are unemployed.

The folks who founded Milspo Academy understand the problem.

It was founded in 2018 by a military spouse and a family invested in veteran career success. With that type of background, the founders are at ground level when it comes to the needs of military families. They have lived it and they have worked with veterans in this space in the past.

They developed a two-step program:

  1. Identify the most sought out and in-demand careers in high-growth industries.
  2. Offer a pathway to those positions.

That pathway is an eight-week program presenting content with live instructors, guided assignments, and hands-on training to aid in the search for careers.

A Partnership begins….

In its partnership with Milspo Academy, HOPE will help guide military spouses and caregivers toward the Milspo Academy program if needed.  Celebrating 15 years of service, Hope For The Warriors assists veterans, service members and military families with a variety of programming including health and wellness, sports and recreation and transition services.

HOPE has also established Milspo Academy scholarships for military spouses and caregivers and HOPE referrals will receive discounted tuition rates. Participants can just mention Hope For The Warriors when signing up for Milspo Academy to receive the discount.

“We are thrilled to be working with Hope For The Warriors to bring career success to its community of veterans and spouses,” said Abbey Ehn, co-founder of CareerDash.

“The military-connected community is incredibly talented and has so many transferable skills but many of us don’t know how to translate those skills to many open positions today. This scholarship will bridge the gaps in resumes and experience to bring about successful careers in sales and recruiting.”

“HOPE is always searching for ideas and programs to help military families and CareerDash is a good fit,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of Hope For The Warriors.

“It is a great way to help military spouses and caregivers prepare for a successful career or job. It’s another way HOPE can support our military families.”

Hope For The Warriors

Founded in 2006, Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for post-9/11 veterans, service members, and military families. What began as post-combat bedside care and support has evolved to a national organization that has adapted to ongoing changes within the military community. The organization has stayed the course with our country’s post-9/11 veteran population as physical wounds healed, but emotional wounds still needed care. Since its inception, Hope For The Warriors has served over 23,200 through a variety of support programs focused on clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation, and transition.
