Purple Star School…Say What?

Have you ever heard of a Purple Star School? Please allow me the honor of educating you as to what this distinction means and what it could potentially offer your student.

Our family hadn’t heard of this until we started researching schools before a summer PCS and BAAM … there it was in print.

The choice between three school districts was made abundantly easier when we saw the distinction “PURPLE STAR SCHOOL DISTRICT” in bold purple next to Kershaw County (SC).

Although I had a pretty good idea of what this meant in terms of supporting our military students, I researched more, and this is what I found:

The MCEC (Military Child Education Coalition) states,

“Military children move every two to three years. The Purple Star School program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to college, workforce, and life-ready. Military-connected refers to children of service members on active duty and in the National Guard and Reserves” (per https://www.militarychild.org/purplestarschools)

The more I researched, the more solidified our school of choice, which we have never regretted in the three years of living in our Purple Star School District.
