The Ultimate Summer Activities List

So, we are a few weeks into a year-long deployment. So far, we are doing okay. The first few days were tough.

Then, we had Cub Scouts Day Camp.

I signed up to be the walking leader, which made for a busy week that pretty much drained us. The weather was hot, and we were out in the sun most of the day. After Cub Scouts camp, we headed to the grandparents’ house. We are staying here a bit, then heading to the beach for a few days. After the beach, there is karate camp and a spreadsheet full of Cub Scouts activities. We also have the aquarium, Lego Discovery Land, and a summer reading program on the calendar.

Yep, we are keeping busy.

You wonder how I filled up our calendar with activities? I had a plan. I like plans and being organized. I have to work at being flexible in case an activity isn’t working out. I try to view plans going awry as an opportunity to do something else.

My goals this summer are to have fun, learn some new things, and work on fitness. Thank goodness my son is in Cub Scouts, because we can get all those things just working on the belt loops and pins.

As I was looking through the various requirements to get those belt loops and pins, I marked different things that grandparents, uncles, and aunts could do with my son.

For instance, my mother-in-law knows a lot about different birds, so I asked if she could do the activities required for the belt loop and the pin.

I asked my father-in-law if he could show my son about the computer, printing, and things like that. There goes another belt loop and pin award.

I’m maximizing my resources while also offering some quality time with family members. I love when a plan comes together and becomes more than I expected. Seriously, I just scored some Household 6 points.

What are you doing with your summer? Do you have a plan? Are you wondering what to do?
