Welcoming Fall While Saving

My husband and I are slowly recovering from the large dent our wedding, PCS, and setting up our first home gave us. That doesn’t mean that my saving mentality should go away though!

As the seasons change, I’ve been really loving the idea of dressing our home for the occasion. I love having our own home together and have been making the most of it. A couple months ago I shared how I made our first place together feel like home.

I’m pretty sad to see summer go, but let’s face it—fall starts off the countdown for the holidays. And who doesn’t love the holidays?!

Recently, I’ve been using some great resources and stores that have been very helpful in my desire to decorate on a budget. Just because you’re tight on cash, doesn’t mean you can’t get festive!

Here are my absolute favorite places that can help you decorate your home to the season:

1. Thrift Stores

To be honest, I was a little skeptical at first. After a couple of visits, I realized you can find some amazing treasures. I’m a fan of mismatched decorative plates. I put them on our buffet to hold fruits.

2. Dollar Stores

You can get some great pieces at dollar stores. I picked up some adorable tea towels that I have hanging in the kitchen with ghosts on them. I also got some towels that have fall leaves that I intend to replace after Halloween—all for less than five bucks! It can also be the go-to place for some starter goods for amazing DIY projects.

3. Outside

You can turn fall foliage into an amazing wreath. The dollar store was selling a wreath structure. Then, I went outside to pick up some leaves and dried twigs. The dollar store might actually have other colored items, if you want to add that to the mix (like faux fall flowers).

4. Department Stores

Only with coupons in tow! Sometimes department stores can get a bit overwhelming and expensive. Check weekly circulars for coupons that take off dollar amounts and for any sales on seasonal items. I typically always wait on coupons or dollar buck deals (when you get cash back to amounts spent on a certain time) to shop at department stores, and it has always been helpful to save $$.
