A Year of Thanks: April

It’s me, again! Tired of me yet? No, you can’t be, because I’m amazing.

This month wasn’t the best month ever by any stretch of the imagination. I had my own personal struggles that, frankly, I’m still dealing with. However, I still managed to find something I’m thankful for every single day. I? Deserve a cookie.

In case you want to catch up, here’s my January, February, and March.

And now?

Here’s my April:

1. Louis CK’s SNL monologue from 30 March: I watched it several times, because it was so stinking funny.

2. 0901 Frame Shop: If you ever find yourself stationed in Seoul and you need a custom frame made, check this place out. It’s inexpensive and their work is amazing.

3. Twitter: It’s taken me a long time to get the whole Twitter thing (because secretly I’m 84 years old, you whippersnapper) but now that I get it, it’s not too shabby.

4. Old Navy: Because their fat girl clothes are inexpensive, and they don’t suck.

5. Photoshop: I love taking pictures, and Photoshop enhances my photos beautifully—and can magically make me look 50 pounds lighter.

6. Airplanes: Imagine being stationed in Korea and having to PCS by boat. Yeah, no.

7. Cosmos: A Spacetime OdysseyI just like being reminded of how little I know about the universe.

8. Bridges: Cars make for crappy boats, and I can’t swim.

9. L’Oréal Infallible Beyoncé Red Lipstick: It’s the best red lipstick ever. You really can’t ever go wrong with red lipstick.

10. The USO: I had the distinct privilege to give a speech at the USO’s 43rd Annual Six Star Salute. The purpose of the Six Star Salute is to pay tribute to 80 exceptional junior enlisted service members in Korea. It’s an amazing function, and I’m thankful to have been a part of it. The USO just makes things better. And if you’ve ever been stuck at airport that had a USO, you know what I mean!

11. Wax: Because my eyebrows and lip need all the help they can get.

12. ScandalOh. Em. Gee. I love that show! It definitely makes my top 10 of favorite TV shows. And I love TV more than I love most things in my life.

13. My husband does the laundry: Very thankful for that, because I’d have to buy underwear right about now if he didn’t.

14. IKEA: An entertainment center that can be completely put together with a hex key? Yes, sign me up.

15. A man in a suit: Just. Yes.

16. Korean strawberries: They are better than any candy you’ve ever had. So. Good.

17. Remotes: When I was a kid, we had a TV that didn’t have a remote. It had one of those dials you had to turn to change the channel. My quality of life improved in spades when we got a TV that operated with a remote control.

18. Air conditioning: Heat/humidity and I do not get a long. I just can’t stand sweating. When I was a kid, I lived in a five-story walk up in the Bronx that had no elevator and no air conditioning. Once I realized what I was missing, there was no looking back.

19. A really comfy couch: Can’t beat that with a stick.

20. Traditions: Coloring Easter eggs, decorating cookies for Christmas, I love family traditions. My family didn’t do that sort of stuff, and I have always felt like I missed out. I love having these moments with my family.

21. Airlines can ship pets: We adopted a sweet (and totally annoying) rescue here in Korea, and after three years, we will moving back to the states this summer. I feel like we’re bringing our adopted baby home to give him a better life in America. I am thankful my son can keep his dog.

22. Movie theaters: Provided no cell phones ring, no babies cry, and the movie doesn’t suck, movies are a good time.

23. iMessage: I don’t know if you know this, but if you and someone you love have an iPhone, you can message each other free. This includes international texts. Seriously. I use it with my bestie, and as soon as she gets a better grasp of texting, I’m sure we’ll text more.

24. 9 Kids and CountingI want to be a Duggar more than I’d like to admit. Michelle has the patience of a saint, and I wish some of that would rub off on me.

25. Competitions: I thoroughly enjoy watching anything competitive. Curling, bowling, speed skating, break dancing… I love watching people compete.

26. Having the opportunity to help others: Makes me all warm and fuzzy.

27. GIFs: I get into these GIF conversations with my friend Jessica that are truly priceless. What’s a GIF conversation?  This.  A series of GIF reactions that make for a hilarious “conversation.”

28. A really comfortable bra: Get measured, ladies. Chances are your bra is the wrong size. Trust me. #iknowstuff

29. Transformers: Not the Autobot kind. The kind that converts 110v to 220v. Living on the economy in Korea would be hell on Earth without them. I need my washer, dryer, Keurig, flat iron…

30. Mulligans: Real life mulligans. When they happen, take it and run with it.
