AWTR 947: The Power of Mindfulness in Everything You Do

Today on Army Wife Talk Radio, our Director of Podcast Production, Jade, shares her experience with mindfulness. Jade has found mindfulness to be the act of teaching yourself the skill of paying attention to the present by noticing when your mind wanders off.

Jade started her mindfulness journey in a class at Rutger’s. The professor required her students to practice mindfulness for 10 minutes at the end of class. Even though she and many of the students were skeptical, it was the beginning of the mindfulness journey for Jade. Now, nine years later, Jade’s twice-a-day meditation practice has transformed her life. She shares how it is still sometimes hard for her, but she is continuing to practice her mindfulness to navigate the stresses of milspouse life.

Jade shares some examples to develop mindfulness like taking deep breaths, journaling, going for walks, reading affirmations, positive self-talk, and recording daily gratitudes. You can mix and match and use any combination of these mindfulness practices.

One of Jade’s favorite activities is to end or begin her day by writing five to ten things she is grateful for. She especially likes this practice during a PCS when life can feel isolating and difficult.

Mindfulness comes in all shapes and sizes. Remember, it’s a practice, no perfection is needed. So, take a deep breath, you’ve got this, milspouse!

Thanks for all your mindfulness tips, Jade.
