AWTR Show #746: American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association

Hooah and thank you for listening to another episode of Army Wife Talk Radio. This segment features an interview with Charlene Wilde, the Assistant Secretary of the American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA), our nation’s longest-standing military financial services non-profit organization.

Charlene, her husband, and their two sons are in the midst of pre-retirement planning. Her husband will be retiring from the Army after 26 years of service, and despite being a veteran herself and going through this process when she separated, they are learning that there’s a lot to consider when you prepare as a family. Not only is retirement a serious lifestyle change for everyone, but there’s a lot of financial planning that must go into the transition. It’s not just about bolstering your savings for the near-term. Charlene and her family have discovered that you need to have a realistic long-term plan for saving and investing which means taking second careers, children’s education, and home purchases into consideration.
