Let’s Give You Something To Talk About

We’ve spent some time this year talking about Battle Buddies.

We talked about how we look for those that are like us in I Want a Friend That’s “Normal”. We’ve shared Care Package Ideas for Military Spouse Appreciation. We even visited the topic of being our children’s battle buddies in You’re Military Child Will Be Okay, Mama. We dove into the self-exploration of friendships in What Type of Battle Buddy Are You?

One thing many military spouses tell us is that, once they’ve introduced themselves to a friend, they don’t know how to keep the conversation flowing.

We’ve got you covered.

Here are some beginning questions.

The Easy Questions

Of course, the first questions are always the easiest:

Where have you lived/been stationed?

Where are you from, originally?

Where did you meet your service member?

Do you work or volunteer? If so, doing what?

Do you have any children? If so, how many and what ages?

Do you have any pets?

Digging a Little Deeper

But, what if you want to know more? Here are some additional conversation starters:

What did you do this past weekend?

What do you like to watch on television?

What is your favorite food?

What is your favorite color?

Do you like to cook?

How do you waste time or relax?

What makes you smile/laugh?

What frustrates you the most?

What do you do when you’re having an “I hate the military day?”

How many deployments have you survived?

Do you have any siblings?

What do you love most about the military?

Do you play any instruments?

What was the last thing you read?

Do you speak any other languages?

What is your favorite holiday?

What is your favorite day of the week?

What is your favorite sports team?

Where have you been on vacation?

What is your favorite movie?

What is your middle name?

Do you have any interesting quirks?

What are your personal long term goals?

What is your dream job?

What is your favorite childhood memory?

What do you do before you go to sleep?

What do you dream about?

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Are you a saver or a spender?

Describe your personality.

What makes you unique?

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Who do you look up to?

What is your biggest regret? Celebration?

Now, Think Deeper

Let’s focus on you now.

What are your go-to questions that you ask when you get to know people?

Is there a question or questions here that you would never ask?

Do situations such as this, where questions become a priority to keep everyone talking make you anxious/nervous? Why/Why not?

Do you tend to choose your friends based on their answers being the same/similar as your feelings/answers on said topics or do you wish for our friends to be very eclectic and different from you?

Army Wife Network is blessed with many military spouses who share their journey through writing in our Experience blog category. As we PCS in our military journey, bloggers too sometimes move on. Their content and contributions are still valued and resourceful. Those posts are reassigned under "Retired Bloggers" in order to allow them to remain available as content for our AWN fans.
