Fall Adventure List (With Printable!)

Take a deep breath in through the nose. That’s right, a good, wholesome whiff. Do you smell that? It’s fall!

My husband and I have come to the conclusion that fall is probably our favorite season. We adore the beauty, sounds, and smells that come with it. We anticipate the holiday season that we may (or may not) be spending together. It is the time of year when the world around us is changing and pumpkin spice everything appears at every corner.

Some people mourn the end of summer and loathe fall, primarily due to the fact that “adventure” seems to fall by the wayside. We are now well into fall, but I would like to share a little secret:

Just because fall is here doesn’t mean that adventure has to stop.

In fact, fall means an opportunity for new adventures—ones that are unique to this season.

So, that is what I would like to share with you today. I have composed a Fall Adventure List, complete with a handy-dandy printable, if you want to add a new dimension of fun. The printable includes the following 12 Fall Adventure Suggestions on leaf silhouettes. You and your children can print them out on different colored construction paper or card stock, then choose a random leaf out of your “adventure bucket.”

When you have experienced the adventure, you can use the leaf to decorate around the house or place on a bulletin board.

If you are super motivated and extra Pinterest-y, you could make a tree template for your wall, put your leaves on the tree, and as you achieve the adventure, move the leaf from the tree branches to a “pile” below it.

Also included with the printable is a sheet of “blank” leaves so you can add your own fall adventures to the list.

Ready to “all” into fun? Let’s see what Fall Adventures are in store for us this glorious season:

1. Explore a new “fall-only” location.

This could be a pumpkin patch, cider mill, corn maze, or anything like that. It is great for the kids—and it can also be tons of fun for grown ups. (Let’s not forget that there will probably be delicious treats involved with this adventure.)

2. Go through your clothes.

We have all heard about spring cleaning, but what about rotating out our summer clothes for the cool weather collection? If you don’t live in a climate that requires different attire for changing seasons, consider cleaning out your closet of clothes that don’t fit anymore. Get rid of too-big items (which might motivate you to make healthier holiday choices) or donate clothes to a shelter/charity in prep for upcoming holiday season.

3. Think about your upcoming goals for the New Year.

Did that one scare you a bit? Yeah, we have a little more than two months before the New Year is going to be knocking down our door. Don’t let it sneak up on you. Think ahead and get ready for yet another new season.

4. Drink a fall beverage.

This can be a seasonal blend from Starbucks (Pumpkin Spice Latte, anyone?), hot apple cider, or cocoa with the kiddos, or even a seasonal fall adult beverage for our 21-and-older readers out there.

6. Read a “seasonal” book… or 12.

There are a lot of great books coming out this fall—snag one and use it to go to your “happy place” when the holiday rush starts to get all up in your grill.

6. Capture ideas in a gratitude journal.

“Thanksvember” is right around the corner. Instead of just focusing on gratitude for a one month, what if we cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude 365 days a year? Get a head start and write down your blessings and things you are grateful for starting today.

7. Do an act of service.

Actually, don’t feel like you have to stop at one act of service. Consider making this fall a season of service. Volunteer for a cause you are passionate about, compliment the cashier at the commissary on a job well done, encourage your kiddos to hold the door for the person behind them, or even buy a seasonal fall drink for another coffee shop patron. Nothing is too small.

8. Make one holiday decoration.

Bust out the craft glue, construction paper, and safety scissors and create some great fall décor by yourself or with your kids. If you are extra motivated, think ahead to Thanksgiving and Christmas. (Pinterest would probably be a great place to find inspiration.)

9. Intentionally add beauty or joy to life.

A new fall wreath on your door. A cinnamon candle burning on the TV stand. Shampoo that smells so awesome, the roots of your hair smile. Get creative and enjoy life!

10. Bake pumpkin something.

Bread, cupcakes, cider, seeds, pie. Bake it. Savor it. And if you are feeling extra generous, share it. (Feel free to send a slice my way!)

11. Try a new Crockpot recipe.

God bless Crockpot cooking. I use my Crockpot year-round but when fall shows up, I kick it into high gear. Soups, veggies, meat, even drinks and desserts can be a product of Crockpot magic.

12. Do a fall photo shoot.

This doesn’t have to be “official” or a one-time deal. Take the kids to the park or pumpkin patch and capture some candid shots. Or, if you will be spending this season apart from your beloved service member, book a session to send some pictures to him for the holidays. Oh, and don’t forget that Christmas card send-out season is coming soon too!

There are some many wonderful adventures to be had in this fall season. What would you add to the list? Feel free to comment below.
