US Military Dependent Tests Positive for Coronavirus
Military.com reported that a U.S. military dependent in South Korea, tested positive for COVID-19, also known as coronavirus. “The woman, a 61-year-old widowed dependent visited the post exchange on February 12 and 15 at Camp Walker.”
“USFK has raised the risk level to ‘high’ for USFK peninsula-wide as a prudent measure to protect the force,” said a statement by United States Forces Korea. “The command encouraged all personnel to continue to practice strict proper hygiene measures, including frequently and thoroughly washing hands and avoiding handshakes and unnecessary contact with others,” reported Miltary.com
Studies Show a Primary PTSD Treatment Is Not Effective
MilitaryTimes.com reported that two front-line approaches used to treat PTSD by the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, “don’t work for up to two-thirds of patients.” The two psychotherapies are Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE). Multiple studies found that the therapies have limited success. Lead author of the study’s review, Maria Steenkamp, who is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at Grossman, said, “ the new research shows that VA and DoD providers should help their patients find treatments that work for them, rather than use a one-size-fits all approach.”
Milspouse Aims For 2020 Olympics in Toyko
Chantae McMillan, a military kid turned milspouse, has her sights on the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. McMillian competed at the 2012 London Olympics in heptathlon, which is a combination of seven track and field events. She caught the flu during the 2012 Olympics and struggled to compete. She has her sights on the 2020 Toyko Olympics where she has focused on javelin. She told Military Families.com, “[The javelin] is so technically difficult; you can throw a great throw and the next time is like, whoa, you missed a degree when you released and it took two meters off your throw. I like those little details, the perfection of it.”
800 Soldiers Return to Ft. Bragg
We’re welcoming home about 800 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. These soldiers were part of a rapid deployment at the beginning of January. According to Stripes.com, the battalion deployed within 18 hours of receiving orders. More than two thousand members of the brigade are still deployed, and at this time, a redployment to the US has not been announced. Welcome back, soldiers! All the way!
