$1.1B Contract Approved to Improve Army Housing
New financing could bring updates and improvements to some Army housing as early as this summer, according to Federal News Network. A $1.1 billion loan has been approved by the Army through LendLease at six installations. The homes that qualify have fallen into substandard conditions. Some of the homes are considered beyond repair and will be torn down and rebuilt. “The installations that will see improvements under the LendLease deal are Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Fort Drum, New York; and various properties in Hawaii,” reported Federal News Network.
Veteran Organizations Advocate to Congress
Fourteen veteran organizations descended on Congress last week in an advocacy effort. Traditionally, the groups meet with the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees in March to bring attention to veterans’ needs, however, this year, the meetings were held virtually to ensure safety of those participating. Additionally, the committees will be hearing about various military challenges, including “global security challenges, military service academies, Africa, Venezuela, and VA infrastructure,” according to Military Times.
2021 Warrior Games Announced
The Department of Defense announced its 2021 Warrior Games will take place Sept. 12-22 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida. The 2021 Warrior Games will feature 12 adaptive sports and showcase and honor service members who were wounded, ill, or injured. The Department of Defense states that the games “serve as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors by providing them exposure to adaptive sports.” Those interested in participating can contact their specific service branch’s Warrior Care Program.
