Summer Fun for Homeschoolers: Keep Learning All Summer Long

Many homeschool families take a break from school for the summer, but that doesn’t mean learning has to stop! This blog post will explore some fun and easy ways to keep your kids busy learning all summer long!

Utilize Online Educational Learning Resources

Homeschool parents often worry that their children will forget the skills learned over the past year while they break for summer. One great way to keep the “summer slide” at bay is to take advantage of online resources.

There are many websites that offer free educational materials for kids of all ages. Spend some time exploring these sites and make a list of activities your child can do each day. You can also find online courses that your child can take to learn more about a specific subject.

A quick note here, keep this activity light and fun so that your child continues to look forward to this activity over the summer months ahead.

Visit the Library

learningAnother idea is to visit your local library. Most libraries offer summer reading programs for kids, which are a great way to keep them engaged in learning. Many libraries also have story times and other events throughout the summer. Check with your local library to see what they have to offer. And, if there are libraries in nearby communities and you don’t mind a bit of a drive, check them out, too.

Have Fun Learning with Field Trips!

Finally, don’t forget about field trips! Visiting museums, zoos, and other attractions can be a fabulous way to learn and incredibly fun, too! Many places offer homeschool days or discounts, so be sure to ask about those when you’re planning your trip.

Also, if you’re planning to visit a museum, check to see if they are part of the Blue Star Museums program. This program offers free museum admission to military personnel and their families.

Get Outside and Explore!

Summertime is an excellent opportunity for homeschoolers to get outside and explore nature. Take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days by going on hikes, visiting parks, and even camping out in the backyard! You can also use this time to teach your child about gardening and have them help you plant a garden of their own.

There are many ways to incorporate learning into summer fun – it just takes a little creativity.
