The Warrior’s Compass

When Hope For the Warriors came up with the idea for The Warrior’s Compass, we had one thing in mind: assisting our veteran community in different ways to navigate their civilian career search. We wanted to point our veteran community in the right direction. We do our best to provide the resources for them to do just that.

The Warrior’s Compass resources include:

  • Job training and military skills translation
  • Candidate matching
  • Mentorship from other veterans
  • Building a strong resume
  • Access to more than 1,500 companies that want to hire veterans

Here at HOPE, we pride ourselves in being able to adjust our programs to fit the ever-changing needs of the military community. Sometimes, that evolution is shoved along quicker by outside forces … like the pandemic. Suddenly things we took for granted, things we were doing face-to-face were stopped in their tracks.

But here at HOPE, we are big believers in the old saying “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” After the pandemic hit, like everyone else, we were making lots of lemonade.

Our First Veteran Workshop

Despite the pandemic, we were able to pull off that first webinar in September of 2020 in conjunction with the Washington Football Team. The webinar covered many topics, from resume revision to in-person and virtual interview training to online networking and much more.Warrior's

That first workshop taught us some things and we realized that we could put together our own virtual events during the pandemic and beyond.

Since then, we have hosted a number of HOPE Employee Readiness workshops to assist service members, veterans and their spouses with their post-military career paths. Some of the panelists we’ve had have come from Navy Federal Credit Union, the Virginia Department of Veteran services, Microsoft, CareerDash and, of course, HOPE staff members.

Upcoming Workshops/Programs at Hope For The Warrior

Our next workshop is planned for this fall. We’ll have an exact date for it soon and will get that date and time posted on the HOPE website and social media.

  • Spouse and Caregiver Scholarships is another effective transition tool offered by HOPE are theThese scholarships provide aid in continued education at a reputable, accredited university, college, or trade school for spouses/caregivers as they assume critical roles in the financial well-being of their family. The scholarships, which must be applied for, are offered every fall and spring. To read about past winners, check out Spouse/Caregivers Scholarships.
  • Drive For Hope is another valuable transition program offered by HOPE, helping service members and veterans regain the independence that was lost as a result of a catastrophic injury.
  • In collaboration with the Driver Rehabilitation Center of Excellence, the rehabilitation program puts a service member or veteran back behind the wheel, allowing them to return to running errands and making sure kids make it to ball practice or other after-school activities.

If you are going through career or life transition, or expect to encounter changes soon, please tune in. It doesn’t cost a dime and could help you manage a difficult time. However, in the meantime, we have a number of transition programs to assist military families available now.

Hope For The Warriors

Hope For The Warriors

Founded in 2006, Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, family and hope for post-9/11 veterans, service members, and military families. What began as post-combat bedside care and support has evolved to a national organization that has adapted to ongoing changes within the military community. The organization has stayed the course with our country’s post-9/11 veteran population as physical wounds healed, but emotional wounds still needed care. Since its inception, Hope For The Warriors has served over 23,200 through a variety of support programs focused on clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation, and transition.
