What Back to School Means for Milspouses

The realities of military life can be challenging: frequent moves, job changes, all while managing the daily stresses of military service. The constant change in military life can make it challenging for military spouses to go back to school and, ultimately, enhance their career opportunities.

Luckily, online education is an effective tool for reaching those goals. Throughout the past year, online learning has grown in popularity and offerings. Now, many certificates, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs are offered online. For military spouses, digital learning provides the flexibility they need. No matter where in the world their next duty station takes them, military spouses can continue their education.

Online learning also allows military spouses the flexibility with what time of day they complete their courses. This is helpful to those who are employed and are the sole child-care provider for their family. 

“Online education made all the difference in allowing me to pursue a career and is an especially valuable tool for all military spouses on the move,” said Dr. Sonya Blevins, a Gold Star spouse who completed her graduate education during her husband’s time in the U.S. Army. Currently, she serves as an associate dean for nursing at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

As part of its ongoing commitment to support the educational needs of our nation’s military SNHU is supporting the United Service Organizations’ Pathfinder® Transition Program. This program is available online and offers professional development support throughout the duration of the service member or military spouse’s career, as well as when they transition out of the military and settle into their new communities.

SNHU’s dedicated military academic and career advisors focus on ensuring the success of students within the military community. If you’re currently employed and provided tuition reimbursement, SNHU can offer tuition reimbursement through your employer. This plan allows you up to 45 days after your class ends to have it paid for in full. As the worldwide education partner of the USO, SNHU provides opportunities for military spouses to learn about unique educational and up-skilling pathways throughout the globe.

Regardless of where the military sends them, military spouses can get a first-rate education in an environment that is conducive to military life.
