Exchanges Offer More Shopping Options
Military exchanges and commissaries have ramped up their efforts to provide customers with more shopping options. Twenty eight Navy Exchange locations now offer an order-online-and-pickup-in-store service, reported Military Times. Additionally, shoppers have the option to order online and pick up in store or curbside at virtually all AAFES locations, and two Marine exchanges at Quantico and Parris Island offer similar shopping options. Commissaries are following suit and working to develop their Click2Go program where customers order online and groceries are delivered curbside to their vehicles. The plan is to expand the Click2Go programs to 60 locations over the next two years.
This Week in History
The Civilian Conservation Corps was established on March 31, 1933. President Franklin D. Roosevelt led the effort to help young men between the ages of 18 and 25 seek meaningful work, develop skills, and earn a small paycheck during the Great Depression. The CCC was part of the New Deal and a way to help the country tackle high unemployment rates. According to History.com, workers received $30 per month and were required to send between $22 and $25 back home to their families who were on government assistance. The men were enlisted for a minimum of six months and worked on projects that included forest management, soil-erosion controls, re-seeding grazing land, fish rearing facilities, wildlife refuges, building bridges, and creating campground facilities to encourage Americans to enjoy natural resources.
