Historical Facts/Landmarks: The land where Fort Eustis now stands was originally named Mulberry Island by the British in 1610 and is rich with history. For 300 years, Mulberry Island was home to Native Americans, colonists, indentured servants, enslaved Africans, soldiers from both sides of the Civil War, freed men and women, and their former owners rebuilding after the Civil War. You can find traces of this history at the more than 230 archaeological sites on Fort Eustis. This is my most favorite duty station we have ever been to, probably because of the great school district we are in and the mild four seasons of weather.” — Erin V.

“Fort Eustis wasn’t even on our radar before we went there—I’d never heard of it—but we were so blessed while there. We’d go back if ever given the chance.” —Jennifer H.
