Spring and Seasonal Cleaning

Spring has finally made an appearance dear readers! The time of new starts and fresh beginnings. If any of you are like me, spring means cleaning, purging closets of unwanted clothes, and taking time to reconnect with myself and crack down on wellness.

Lets talk cleaning and closet purging…

I have no idea why, but (what feels like some sort of internal clock) I take about a week to go through my summer/spring and fall/winter wardrobe. There is something therapeutic about going through my clothes and making room for new things.

It also exciting to see what this year’s fashion finds will be. I enjoy cleaning out my wardrobe because it gives me time to wind down in a sense and collect my thoughts and get organized.

For my kids, spring cleaning is a different story…

I must go through their clothes about once every other month. Kids grow so fast and go through clothes at an alarming rate. It feels as if I can’t keep up (ha ha)! I’ll have to say the most annoying part is driving everything down to goodwill to donate. It makes me miss living on a military base. On the military base there was always a neighbor or friend that could take the clothes off your hands. Even posting the items on curb alert page was a fast and effortless way to “donate” clothes. Set it out and it’s gone in one hour or less! I really miss those days.

Although it is bittersweet going through my boys’ clothes, it also opens the opportunity for them to get new clothes. New season, new wardrobe!

Applying my spring-cleaning method to my personal life in a positive way…

I made new goal set list for myself and have decided to focus on turning my low feelings into energy for workout or crafts. So far it has been helping (little by little). I also like to take this time to think while I keep busy.

It’s a very odd form of multitasking. I try to plan and make mental notes so I can plan out events and personal goals. For some reason I cannot pinpoint, I’ve always felt the need to declutter and spruce up my wardrobe and home. It gives me a sense of satisfaction of a job well done!

The next time you find yourself “moved by the spirit of cleaning,” ask yourself these questions…

—Do I need this?

—Does it still fit?

—How can I turn this task into something positive?

Seasonal cleaning can always bring out the best of a situation. It allows you to make room for new things out switch things up a bit! Instead of making cleaning season all about time consuming dread, just make the best out of the situation. Positivity equals mental wellness.

Anastassia is originally from North Carolina, born and raised in Fort Bragg. She is a military child turned spouse, so the Army has been a part of who she is for her entire life. She and her husband have been married for six years and have two boys (2 and 5 years old) and are currently stationed in Washington, Illinois (for now at least). She is hoping her next assignment will take her back down South next because she does not enjoy snow filled winters! She is a stay at home mom with a knack for Crocheting (she actually turned her hobby into a side job- how cool is that?) She also enjoys yoga, podcasts, reading, thrifting, and exploring cities and villages. Most of her exploring various places is food related as she loves trying new foods (and finding cool tea rooms) so she can broaden her pallet. Not to mention, you always meet the nicest people in restaurants and bakeries! Anastassia is a fun-loving person who is always ready at a moment's notice to enjoy life, have fun, and make new friends.

Sounds like we are on the same wave length, Anastassia– I’ve been doing LOADS of cleaning and purging lately too! It’s liberating, even with no PCS in our near future.
