We Should Have Jumped More…

When is the last time you Jumped? I mean… really jumped?

Jumped for Joy?

Jumped at a some kind of chance?

Jumped into a new duty station?

Jumped to reach a new career height?

I spent the past hour watching my grandson jump on a mini trampoline.

His face was pure joy. He jumped with sheer abandon…screaming and laughing.

I was jealous. I can’t remember the last time, I let go and leaped into something.

I can’t remember the last time I jumped from a physical height.

Losing my stomach into my knees.

Losing my fear on the way down.

I can’t remember the last time I jumped from an emotional height.

Without weighing the pros and cons.

Without overthinking.

I can’t remember the last time I jumped from a mental height.

Learning something hard.

Learning something new.

I also can’t remember the last time I jumped from a spiritual height.

Letting my need for control fall away.

Letting God lead my steps.

We are often warned NOT to jump too quickly…

Into friendships.

Into love.

Into trust.

Into things that may hurt us.

But as I watched my grandson jump, each burst of laughter showed me his heart.

He was not fearful.

He was not cautious.

He was only focused on the joy that  jumping gave him.

When did we lose that kind of joy?

When did we lose that kind of reckless courage?

We live in a world where planning is essential, and risks must be assessed at all times.

Every once in while, wouldn’t it be awesome if we just JUMPED?

Jumped into a new adventure!

Jumped into a new zipcode!

Jumped into a new day, a new month, or a new year!

Maybe by jumping….. instead of carefully stepping, we will be transformed…..

Beautiful and true. I’ve done a lot of jumping lately (jumping OUT of my dissertation, into a new job, into new season of mental health + boundaries) and it has been so worth it! Good stuff, Kathleen. Thank you!
