Ode to the Military Child

Military Child

Purple ribbon in your hair

Dandelion between your fingers

Laughing with little care

Military child

The places you will go

The goodbyes you’ve already said

The grown up things you know

Military child

Waiting for a call

Making X’s on a calendar

The yellow ribbon on the wall

Military child

Standing on a field

Running into open arms

And months of hurting healed

Military child

Makes anyone a friend

Makes castles out of a cardboard box

Makes beginnings out of ends

Military child

When you’re past these years and grown

This jigsaw puzzle childhood

Will help you stand up on your own

Military child

I’m prouder than words can say

Of the person you’ll be tomorrow

Because of the child you are today

Army Wife Network is blessed with many military spouses who share their journey through writing in our Experience blog category. As we PCS in our military journey, bloggers too sometimes move on. Their content and contributions are still valued and resourceful. Those posts are reassigned under "Retired Bloggers" in order to allow them to remain available as content for our AWN fans.
