A Year of Thanks: June

Six months.

I’ve been writing down one thing I am thankful for every day for six months (JanuaryFebruaryMarchApril, and May), and I’m surprised I’m still finding things for which to be thankful.

Well, no—I take that back. I’m not surprised, as much as I am… enlightened. There are so many everyday things which we overlook, not thinking of how much our lives benefit from it, like toilet paper or a really good bra.

Think about it.  How much would life suck without toilet paper? I mean, really.

Here’s my June:

1. Orders: Because PCS’ing is something I look forward to. I am nomadic by nature.

2. VH1: Some of the best reality TV has been brought to you by VH1. Loving. It.

3. “All of Me” by John Legend: That song makes me have feelings.

4. Sunglasses: Because brightness hurts.

5. PBSKids.org: When I need my son to be quiet for more than 30 seconds, PBS Kids saves the day!

6. Bed in a Bag: Whoever invented “Bed in a Bag” had me in mind, I swear.

7. Vacuums: Granted, I’m no domestic goddess, but when I do decide to clean, nothing makes an instant difference quite like vacuums.

8. Tic-Tacs: Because you know.

9. Flowers: There is something about a bouquet or field of flowers that just makes me happy.

10. Neil DeGrasse Tyson: I’ve never seen anyone make science as cool as this guy. He’s awesome!

11. Ice cubes: Genius.

12. Hotels: Have you ever thought of what it would be like without hotels? What PCS’ing would be like? Bananas, that’s what.

13. Magnolia trees: They hold a sentimental value for me, so seeing a Magnolia tree just makes me smile.

14. Dry erase board: My family has always used a dry erase board to leave notes in the kitchen, keep a grocery list, etc. It just makes sense!

15. Shuttle buses on Yongsan: Yeah, they don’t run as frequently as one would like, but since I shipped my car to the states already it’s better than walking!

16. Basketball WivesMy love for giant hoop earrings were made less odd thanks to the lovely ladies on Basketball Wives. They made my earrings look normal!

Me, Janet, and Tara. LOOK AT THOSE EARRINGS. I'm just saying.
Me, Janet, and Tara. LOOK AT THOSE EARRINGS. I’m just saying.

17. TimeHop: his app is so cool. Seeing what hilarious thing I wrote in Facebook on that particular day one, two, three, even six years ago? It’s pretty neat.

18. Magic Erasers: I don’t want to know what chemicals are in them, so I choose to believe they really are magic.

19. OxyClean: The Magic Erasers of laundry.

20. Maggie’s Jewelry: My love for earrings knows no bounds. My favorite jewelry comes from my sweet friend, Maggie. Her shop is amazing. God love her.

21. Priority mail: Because without Priority mail, APO mail would take forever.

22. A gallon of milk:  I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I can go to the store and buy a gallon of milk as opposed to all that’s involved with milking a cow.

23. Drano: Because I shed like a Husky in the summer. Thank goodness for Drano.

24. Car washes: We were in Korea for three years and didn’t once get our car washed, because we didn’t know where to find a car wash. Of course, we found one just before we PCS from Korea… Either way, my crappy car looked less crappy after it was washed!

25. Enlisted: It’s a shame this show was cancelled, because it’s actually really funny. Well, if you have a sense of humor, it’s funny.

26. My son is starting to recognize sight words: Hooray!

27. Circuitous travel: We are going to Hawaii on our way back to America. I CAN’T WAIT.

28. Rice ice cream from Palazzo: Just. Ugh. So. Good.

29. The Dictionary app’s Word of the Day: Every now and then, I commit a word to memory. This is the penultimate thing I’m thankful for this month!

30. Two weeks left in Korea: I’m thankful for that!

What are you thankful for?
